Marshmallow Shapes and Colors May Vary by Riya Chandiramani
- Medium:
Acrylic on Paper - Size: 42 cm (W) X 58 cm (H)
- The goddess Kali stands at the center of Marshmallow Shapes, with fire to her left, and water to her right. Kali has multiple heads, representing the multilayered, multi-faceted, natural woman. Behind Kali are volcanoes, a symbol of female pleasure, as well as of the bursting, burning, dissolving that leads to enlightenment. Chandiramani replaced the Lucky Charms marshmallows with whimsical vaginas and breasts, as a critique of how the media only represents the ‘ideal’ woman, without showing the variance amongst female figures.
