ABOUT THE SHOW:

Young Soy Gallery is proud to present Monxxters, a Benson Koo solo exhibition.

People familiar with Koo know he is no stranger to darkness. By confronting and apprehending the darkness in this new body of work, Koo makes palpable the horrors that permeate his dreams, and his day-to-day life.

A desired evolution in his work is developed by employing new techniques recently influenced by his time in Barcelona, Spain throughout 2022. An example of this is imprinting the texture of exterior street walls on paper before tearing and burning it to be morphed and cast onto wood; the fractured recollections of his comatose state are made ever more visceral.

An introduction to the world of Koo’s work.

The images are fragmented, ominous, and vicious. Unlike his previous body of work, he has created this new series by engaging a myriad of materials such as ink, acrylic, oil stick, marker pen, archival paper, and rice paper.

As Koo reveals his frame of mind, the work also invites us to examine and confront our monsters.
