Are there monsters under your bed? Do they crawl out from underneath, and frighten the hairs off your neck? Or do you feel safe knowing they are watching over you? There is only one way to find out…
Young Soy Gallery is proud to introduce Monsters and Makers, an exhibition featuring Benson Koo, Mooncasket, and Tyler Jackson Pritchard.
These humans explore life, death, good and evil: heavenly heroes and vicious villains, in an attempt to traverse ancient and contemporary conceptions of ferocious figures. Koo’s black and white appearances haunt you as they approach you, crawling off the two-dimensional page. Mooncasket blurs our preconceived notions of good and evil, depicting affectionate monsters who present little threat. All while Pritchard’s abstract figures are ‘holy’, but his Gods are mere mortals that we have succumbed to worshiping. Let this exhibition in, and let it force you to reconsider popular notions of behemoths in both good and evil contexts.

Born in the 80s in Hong Kong, Benson Koo takes darkness as one of his favorite topics as well as an artistic creation type, so his works tend to permeate distinctive absurdity and fearlessness: images such as death, blood, violence, and darkness are condensed in his artistic creation and endowed with life. His works are like a mirror, reminding us to faithfully look at and face our inner darkness.
MOONCASKET
MIXED MEDIA ARTIST
Mooncasket (Evangeline Chan) is a Hong Kong-based illustrator who is known for her cute and quirky character doodles. Mooncasket runs against the grain, delivering art for the humble and young at heart from a lowbrow perspective. Growing up in a busy and crowded city, she finds cartoons are a soothing escape from reality, because life doesn’t have to be so serious all the time.
TYLER JACKSON PRITCHARD

Tyler Jackson Pritchard is a multidisciplinary artist focusing in painting and photography creating a new vernacular that bridges the gap between abstraction and representational art. His work expresses external/internal struggle and the underlying constructs and forms that result. Jackson’s paintings teem with a raw yet reserved energy. His diversity of subject matter, genres, and techniques parallels the multiplicity and complexity of themes he explores through his work such as grief, catharsis, conquest and elation. He uses his most recognizable motif of continuous intersecting lines as a linguistic evolution, with a full range of tonality. With seemingly haphazard layers of overlapping strokes, he evokes a mysterious intricacy of how the individual processes imagery or events; the fury, meditative, complexity, clarity, masochism and benevolence appear random yet methodical.
